Moss Island and Little Falls

Known primarily as a fun top-roping spot, many of the locals know little of the existing bouldering in the area, let alone the stuff that has yet to be developed.  More boulders may pop up in this section as they come in.

As far as roped climbing, a permit is supposed to be obtained from a Police station or something, but I’ve never heard of someone being hassled.  All you need to do when you get off the highway is take a left before you cross the bridge, and park in the parking lot.  Grab your gear, and walk across the lock onto Moss Island.

The boulders are on the back of the island, opposite the cliffs you come to when you walk along the paved path.  Just follow the trails for like, 5 minutes – it’s quite other-worldly back there…

Moss Island bouldering

Yes, that's a boulder. Yes, that's a beach. Yes you can swim in the water. Smack in the middle of New York State!
