Presidents’ Day Weekend

I had an amazing weekend checking out a new climbing spot called The Northeast, and bouldering in an all-weather favorite in Little Falls, NY.  Last, we did some winter exploration of Moss Island.

Here are the pics:

The Northeast

Unfortunately, we were only able to sort out the directions to the Northeast with enough time left to do more than warm up on a problem to the left of the $1000 Shwapple (V9).  You can check out some footage of the shwapple goin’ down in Friends, Part 2 (towards the end), courtesy of the guys at BassForYourFace.

There’s probably about 500 problems to be had in this area, ripe with FA’s, and amazing rock.  All of the development and cleaning thus far has been done by the locals and crushers in and around New Paltz.

I dub this pic “Chicken Wing”

Little Falls All-Weather Cave

This spot serves as our fall-back plan.  It’s more of a gym than anything else, but TONS of cool, hard lines, complete with graffiti, broken-down cars, shards of glass, and trains screaming by not 100 yards away.

Moss Island, Little Falls, NY

Last, but certainly not least, was this little spot…  The rocks on Moss Island are gneiss carved-out by a glacial water fall millions of years ago.  The result is formations of rock resembling those found on the top of the Venezuelan tapui on King Lines.  It’s even more other-worldly in the summer.

…Add 250, and that’s how many miles I traveled.
